The port city of Gothenburg (pronounced Jöteborj) is Sweden's second largest city with 550 000 inhabitants and was founded in 1619 by King Gustav II Adolf. His city plan was modelled on the Dutch, which can still be seen today in the moat that zigzags around the city centre and the large harbour canal.
