Info about Geneva

Geneva is an international financial centre that invites you to take long walks through the city centre on the shores of sleepy Lake Geneva. Whether spring, summer or autumn, Geneva is an impressive destination for your stag party.

Old Town Geneva and St. Peter's Cathedral

Geneva's old town, known as the "Vieille Ville" in French, is a maze of medieval, winding streets lined with restaurants, shops and watchmaking workshops. This is because during the Reformation, the city was governed by strict regulations, including conservative dress codes. This is how the people of Geneva began to make their famous watches, because they were allowed to be worn and sold, unlike jewellery.

The imposing St. Peter's Cathedral is located at the top of the historic Old Town and has gone down in history as a masterpiece of the Reformation. In the process, the church underwent several construction phases and consists of different architectural styles, the most notable being the neoclassical porch with its Corinthian columns.

Reformation Wall

The Reformation Wall is located at the northern end of the University of Geneva and features statues of the most important thinkers and philosophers of the Reformation. Here you can have your photo taken next to Jean Calvin, Guillaume Farel and John Knox.

Mont-Blanc Quarter

The Mont-Blanc district in the north-west of the city is the perfect place for a walk along the shores of Lake Geneva. Pass by the small gardens and enjoy the sunshine and the glistening surface of the lake before heading to the botanical garden. If you're lucky, you'll also be able to see the summit of Mont Blanc in the distance.

Jet d'eau

The Jet d'eau is a 140 m high jet of water in Lake Geneva and the city's landmark. The jet is the product of a coincidence, because in the 19th century the hydroelectric power station, whose energy was used by the watchmakers and jewellers in the city, had the overpressure of the water pipes indicated here. A very special fountain was born overnight.

CERN Institute

CERN, the famous institute for nuclear research, may be a bit out of town, but it's worth a visit. The permanent exhibitions take you into the world of the microcosm. Tours can be booked for groups of 12 or more.
