Located on the Danube, the Serbian capital Belgrade is one of the largest metropolises in Southeast Europe. With around 1.3 million inhabitants, the city not only has a multifaceted history to offer: Many sights, such as the Belgrade Fortress and the Cathedral of St. Sava, are just waiting to be explored on a city tour!

The fortress and the cathedral

The Belgrade Fortress is the historical core of the city and dates back to the 15th century. A large part of the fortress is still well preserved today and can be visited in detail. Two churches and the Military History Museum of Serbia can also be seen there. Outside the fortress you will also find several parks with beautiful greenery. Here you can relax and enjoy the weather and admire the architecture of the fortress. The Belgrade Zoo is also right next door.

As the headquarters of the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church, Belgrade is known for its church buildings. Particularly impressive is the Cathedral of St. Sava, one of the largest Orthodox places of worship in the world.

The huge dome of the cathedral was built on the model of the Hagia Sophia and rises a full 77 metres into the sky. In front of it is another huge park with many surrounding cafés and restaurants. There is something for everyone here!

Party Culture in Belgrade

Belgrade is also legendary for its parties - varied music, a strong party culture and daily parties can be found in Belgrade at any time of the year. The nightlife here doesn't really get going until 10pm. You can go from club to club in the city centre until the early hours of the morning or make yourself comfortable on a party boat.

One thing is certain on any visit to Belgrade - you won't go hungry. In the many cosy restaurants you can try Serbia's culinary specialities at a really good price. Barbecue is particularly popular in Belgrade. The classic Ćevapčići is a familiar dish even here in Germany. If you are a fan of craft beer, a beer tour of Belgrade is also a must!
