Here you will find the tomb of Duke Henry the Lion and his wife, while a copy of the life-size bronze statue of the Lion of Brunswick has stood outside the castle gates since 1980.
The Altstadtmarkt has its origins in the 12th century, when it was first laid out for merchants. Today it combines architectural styles from different eras and has become a contemporary witness to German history.
