Info about Strasbourg
La Petite France
Strasbourg is a French city in Alsace, located in the east of the country right on the border with Germany. In the city centre of Strasbourg, you can get to know the culture of France on a walk through "La Petite France". This neighbourhood is located in the historic Grande Île district and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can admire half-timbered houses and small alleyways in medieval style.
Grande Île is also home to one of the tallest church towers in the world. The 142 metre high Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg church tower was originally built in the 11th century in a romantic style, before being replaced by Gothic elements from the 12th century onwards. This church is beautiful both inside and out.
Musée Alsacien
The Musée Alsacien brings you closer to the culture of the Alsatians over the years. The five-storey half-timbered house shows you the culture and history of Alsace. The museum displays traditional costumes, artefacts and even furniture and tools from the 18th and 19th centuries. Audio guides in the museum provide you with more detailed information about the exhibition.
German and French cuisine
During your stay, you should definitely not miss out on the typical Alsatian specialities. Due to its proximity to the German border, German and French cuisine mix here in Strasbourg. The Chouchroute Garnie, which consists of a sauerkraut dish with potatoes and sausages, is a particular favourite. Dishes such as tarte flambée and spaetzle are also popular.
But the sweet-toothed among you won't miss out in Strasbourg either. Cakes and pastries such as Dampfnüdle, Kougelhof and Manele are among Alsace's most famous specialities.
Krutenau neighbourhood
The oldest neighbourhood in the city, the Krutenau district, invites you to stroll, shop or browse. In the old half-timbered houses you will find shops, small boutiques and even art galleries. In the evening, you can enjoy cocktails and French wines here before turning night into day in the "Stand Up" pub.
