Info about Porto
"A mui nobre, sempre leal e invicta cidade do Porto" - this is how Portugal's second largest city describes itself. Translated, this means something like "the very noble, always trusting and unshakeable city of Porto". We would like to briefly explain why you should spend your stag party in Porto!
Masterpiece of architecture: Ponte Dom Luís I
Are you a fan of the Eiffel Tower in Paris? Then the Ponte Dom Luís I bridge, which connects Porto with its neighbouring town of Vila Nova de Gaia, is sure to appeal to you! The architect Gustave Eiffel is responsible for the design and construction of both sights. A walk across the bridge offers you a wonderful view of the River Duoro and the two neighbouring towns.
Once back on dry ground, it is worth taking a tour of the Ribeira. Located directly on the banks of the Duoro, there are many terraces with small cafés and various shopping opportunities. If you can't find the perfect souvenir here, we also recommend a detour to Porto's main shopping street, Rua Santa Catarina.
The beautiful beach
Porto's beach location also allows you to relax by the water and enjoy a cool drink or two. The very brave can also cool off in the sea. Cooling off here is meant literally - the water is cold!
As an international student city, Porto has a colourful nightlife to offer. The nights here are very long - many locals and students meet up at midnight in one of the many bars for a night out before heading to a club a few hours later. When these close at 6am, the after-party is already waiting for you - don't expect to get back to your hotel before 12 noon!
The local cuisine in Porto
Porto also boasts exceptional cuisine. Francesinhas are typical of the city: these large sandwiches are filled with various types of meat and then baked with melted cheese. They are served with a sauce made from tomatoes, beer and piri-piri and accompanied by chips. Sweet specialities are also available. Pastel de nata is a sweet pastry that originally comes from Lisbon. It is usually served with cinnamon or cocoa as toppings. Pão de Ló, a sponge-like cake, is also a local speciality. Enjoy the flavour!
