Info about Pilsen
For car and beer fans, the city of Pilsen in the west of the Czech Republic is a dream destination. As the birthplace of Pilsen beer, the cultural capital attracts many tourists every year - after all, there's a lot to explore! Find out what you shouldn't miss on your trip to Pilsen here.
The main destination for beer fans
If you're ever in Pilsen, you should definitely visit the city's brewery museum. Over several floors, you can gain an insight into the history of beer and its production. A visit to the museum also gives you access to the extensive cellar system below the city centre. These corridors run underground for around 200 kilometres and can be visited on tours. During a guided tour, you will not only see the corridors themselves, but also learn about Pilsen's history.
More than just beer: the old town
After this cool excursion, it is a good idea to explore the old town. The houses here are particularly impressive with portals, decorative stucco work and paintings. The end of your tour through the city centre can be Pilsen's market square - it is huge and offers a number of cafés and restaurants for a little (or a lot of) refreshment.
Of course, a pub crawl in the evening is a must in the city of Pilsner beer. Pilsen has several bars and pubs that offer not only the local Pilsner 12-degree beer, but also many other local specialities. Some wine bars also offer space for a cosy evening. If you feel like dancing, there are also many clubs to choose from in Pilsen. Depending on what kind of music you like to listen to, you're sure to find what you're looking for!
The traditional cuisine
Traditional Bohemian cuisine should also not be ignored when visiting Pilsen. Roast pork with dumplings and cabbage (vepřo-knedlo-zelo) is the national dish here and not so far removed from German cuisine. If you fancy something a little more unusual, try garlic soup or kulajda, a potato soup with poached egg and mushrooms!
