Small but mighty! The small city of Luxembourg is the eponymous capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. With a population of around 630,000, Luxembourg is one of the dwarf states of Europe. Alongside Brussels and Strasbourg, Luxembourg City is also home to the administrative centre of the European Union. Despite its manageable size, the city of Luxembourg has a lot to offer and almost everything is within walking distance. Find out here what you can experience at your JGA in Luxembourg.

Lucilinburhuc Castle

The historic old town and the city's fortifications have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. One highlight that you should not miss is Lucilinburhuc Castle. Etymologically, the name goes back to "Lucilinburhuc", which translates as "small castle". The early medieval fortification is located on the Bockfelsen rock, which is around 282 metres above sea level. From here, you have a good view of the entire surrounding area. Here you can also walk along the Chemin de la Corniche, the "most beautiful balcony in Europe", which offers you the best panoramic view of the city and the fortress.

Luxembourg's imposing fortress was built on sandstone cliffs and its remains are still impressive today with their impressive battlements and metre-thick bastions. The labyrinthine underground fortifications, the Bock and Petruss casemates, are particularly worth a visit.

Luxembourg's unique topography impresses with its many valleys, cliffs and plateaus. Here you can explore the various vantage points and viewpoints of the city on foot or with the help of lifts and even have the option of taking a cable car.

Grand Ducal Palace

The Grand Ducal Palace in the old town, the historic fish market and the various museums in Luxembourg are also not to be missed. Seven museums are part of the so-called "Museum Mile" and have something for every taste: whether contemporary art in the "Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain" or natural history in the "Musée national d'histoire naturelle - natur musée".

Park in the Petruss Valley

If you are hungry after such extensive and impressive explorations and long for relaxation, you can have a picnic in one of the idyllic parks in the Petruss Valley, Luxembourg's amazingly green moat, or visit one of the many restaurants in the city. French, German and Belgian cuisine come together in Luxembourg. Here you can feast to your heart's content. In the evenings, the old town centre invites you to go pub hopping.
