Info about Krakow
Krakow, the "secret capital of Poland", is located in the south of the country and is Poland's second largest city with a population of around 780,000. Krakow is particularly impressive with its numerous Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. Find out what else is exciting to discover in Krakow here!
St. Mary's Church and the Cloth Halls
Probably the most popular landmark in Krakow is St. Mary's Church right in the city centre. You can't miss it there - the highest spire of the Gothic basilica is 81 metres high. The church took just under two hundred years to build. Especially the altar of the Virgin Mary is an interesting sight for many tourists.
Krakow's cloth halls on the central Main Market Square are also worth a visit. In the past, cloth from all over the world was traded here, but today there are many small shops in the halls. You're sure to find plenty of souvenirs of your trip here! For art lovers, the Cloth Halls are particularly interesting: The second floor of the building houses the painting gallery of the National Museum.
Krakow nightlife
If you are looking for a city with unusual nightlife, Krakow is the place to be. Krakow is known for its cellar bars, which can be found all over the city. The cool atmosphere of a cellar is broken by the many wooden pieces of furniture and the colour red is particularly prominent in these bars. You won't forget this ambience in a hurry!
Culinary speciality: Zapiekanki
You can satisfy your hunger on every corner in Krakow - many small restaurants and cafés offer a wide range of local specialities. If you're looking for a snack, don't miss the zapiekanki. This baguette, topped with mushrooms and onions, is baked with a good amount of cheese and served with a special sauce. If you're not a fan of mushrooms, there are several other toppings to choose from.
Krakow's street food markets are also highly recommended. Here you can get pan kumpir, among other things. This dish consists of cooked potatoes filled with a variety of ingredients. There is something for everyone here!
