Info about Frankfurt
Frankfurt is one of the world's business metropolises and is internationally networked. Here are the sights that no stag party should be without.
The Roman and Imperial Cathedral
In the heart of the old town stands the city's landmark: the Römer. The town hall dates back to the 15th century and impresses with its stepped gable façade, the Hercules Fountain and the Römerberg, the square in front of it. Over the centuries, several emperors were crowned here.
The Imperial Cathedral got its name because of the imperial elections that began under Emperor Charles IV. The current building on the square is the fourth ever erected, while early buildings can be traced back to the 7th century. Although the sacred building is called a "cathedral", it is actually a church.
Main station
The Hauptwache stands on the square of the same name, "An der Hauptwache", a popular place for Frankfurt residents. The guard building is enthroned in the middle of the square. After being completely destroyed in the Second World War, it now shines again in baroque splendour.
Old Opera House and Goetheplatz
A few corners further on you will find the Old Opera House. It was built in the late 19th century before it faced ruin during the Second World War. Thanks to the commitment of the citizens, however, the building was rebuilt and is now one of Frankfurt's most distinctive buildings.
Frankfurt is the hometown of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and traces of the poet can be found throughout the city. You'll find the impressive Goethe Monument on Goetheplatz and the Goethe House on Großer Hirschgraben. The house was owned by the Goethe family until 1795, and a stroll through the museum will give you an insight into the poet's world.
The Zeil and Sachsenhausen
Fancy a spot of shopping? The Zeil is the largest shopping street and attracts shoppers with trendy shops, restaurants and entertainment. A visit to "My Zeil", the shopping centre, should not be missing from your bucket list.
Sachsenhausen is the place to be in Frankfurt. Where else can you get in the mood for the JGA and prepare for the big day? The best entertainment is guaranteed in the countless bars, pubs and restaurants.
