Info about erfurt
Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, is famous for its architecture and history. Martin Luther once lived here before he received his vision for the Reformation. Which sights should not be missed at the stag party?
Erfurt Cathedral and Severi Church
Erfurt Cathedral was built in 1154 as a late Romanesque church and equipped with a Gothic choir at the end of the 14th century. A spectacle is revealed in the hall when the light on the altar is refracted in the colours of the rainbow. The largest bell in the central tower, the Gloriosa, has already been renewed six times and is the largest free-swinging bell in the world.
The Severi Church sits enthroned next to Erfurt Cathedral in the heart of the old town. In contrast to the dazzling cathedral, it is known simply as a late Gothic building, but inside it impresses with medieval works of art and a golden organ.
Narrowest house in Erfurt
It's easy to miss because it measures only 3.5 m - Erfurt's narrowest house is nestled between two half-timbered houses. If you walk along Marktstraße from Domplatz, you will pass the white house directly.
Fish Market and Krämerbrücke
Want some coffee and cake? In the old town you will find the fish market, where culture and culinary delights mix. The square was once used as a trading place and when you visit it, you still get the feeling of being right in the middle of the action. The town hall is a breathtaking neo-Gothic building and enchants with its three archways and ornaments.
Heading north-east, you will come to the Krämerbrücke, one of the oldest inhabited bridges in the world. It is a masterpiece of German craftsmanship and has been in use for 500 years.
Petersberg Citadel and Augustinian Monastery
The Petersberg Citadel is one of the best-preserved city fortifications in the world. After the ascent, the stone Peter's Gate will lead you to a plateau where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the city. Here you can take the best JGA group photo.
When Martin Luther lived in Erfurt between 1505 and 1511, the Augustinian monastery was his home. Today, the monastery offers an insight into Luther's life and his "Lutherzelle", Luther's modest accommodation.
