Info about Valencia
Welcome to the beautiful Mediterranean coast of Spain. Here in sunny Valenica, Spain's third largest city, wonderful sights await you. With around 300 days of sunshine a year, the city of arts and sciences is always worth a visit, no matter when.
The beautiful old town and the Catedral de Santa María
In the impressive old town of Valencia you will find the Catedral de Santa María de Valencia. Incidentally, there used to be a Roman temple here. The Holy Chalice has been kept in the cathedral since 1437. According to tradition, this is the chalice of the Last Supper of Christ. In addition to the Holy Chalice, there are 14 bells of historical importance in the cathedral. They are located in the Torre del Miguelete, the 51-metre-high bell tower.
The City of Arts and Sciences
Of course, you can't miss Valencia's landmark: The Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias (City of Arts and Sciences). Located in the drained riverbed of the Turia, it is the cultural centre of the city and an architecturally valuable building. Here you will find a domed cinema (Hemisféric), the Science Museum (Museo de las Ciencias), which presents scientific and interactive exhibitions, a water park (Oceanogràfic), where every imaginable ecosystem is presented, and the famous Palau de les Arts.
Always worth a visit is the Mercat Central de Valencia. Here you can stroll through the beautiful market and browse through the fresh produce. In the historic hall, all the goods are well sorted by category, so it's easy to find your way around! Maybe you can take some fresh produce for a picnic in one of Valencia's inviting parks? The Jardín del Turia is a good place to do this.
The Plaza de la Virgen and el Tribunal de las Aguas
The Plaza de la Virgen is a popular hub of the city. Every Thursday, something that is a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage takes place here: The Water Court (El Tribunal de las Aguas). It is a public court that tries disputes between farmers and landowners. It looks a bit like a play, but it's not. You should not miss this spectacle. While you're in the square, discover and admire the Basilica de la Virgen de los Desamparados.
