Info about Vienna
The capital of Austria has been voted the most liveable city in the world for several years and impresses visitors with its architectural wonders, gardens and events. Here are the sights for a successful stag party in the city of music.
St Stephen's Cathedral and Hofburg Palace
St Stephen's Cathedral is the city's landmark and has the tallest church towers in Austria. Architecturally, the cathedral impresses with its Gothic façade and Romanesque elements from the previous building. Legend has it that the north tower was never completed because the architect fell victim to a trick of the devil. Climbing the stairs for a legendary view over Vienna is a must on your JGA.
The Hofburg is located not far from Heldenplatz, where the Natural History Museum is located, and originally dates back to the 13th century before it was extended into a castle in the 16th century under Emperor Ferdinand I. The Habsburgs and Babenbergs resided here, while today the building is used as the official residence of the Federal President.
Schönbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace
Schönbrunn Palace was built in the 16th century before being remodelled in the 18th century as the summer residence of Maria Theresa. With 1441 rooms, it was once the residence of the Habsburgs and the famous Empress Elisabeth of Austria-Hungary, known as "Sissi" for short. The baroque façade is symmetrically arranged and decorated with numerous figures along the roof. On your excursion, you will stroll through the gardens before heading to the zoo.
The Belvedere Palace is framed by the Belvedere Gardens and white gravel. It is divided into the Upper and Lower Belvedere and houses the Austrian Belvedere Gallery. Not to be missed: The Belvedere Fountain is a spectacle, especially in summer.
Vienna City Hall and Vienna State Opera
Vienna City Hall dates back to the 19th century and stands in the neo-Gothic style to the south of the University of Vienna. The façade is framed by five towers. On the highest tower in the centre is the famous Rathausmann statue.
The Vienna State Opera is often seen as synonymous with Vienna. The neo-Renaissance building conceals a breathtaking theatre space and the famous staircase, which is known as the the meeting place par excellence at the Opera Ball.
