Imperial castle and exciting history

Nuremberg was already an important trading centre in the Middle Ages and is still an impressive city in Germany today. Here are the sights that no stag party should be without.

The Imperial Castle is the city's landmark and sits enthroned in the middle of the city centre. Archaeological finds prove that the castle was built in the 10th century and was the seat of the Roman-German emperors for several centuries. Like the rest of Germany, the castle was not spared from the bombing raids of the Second World War.

The castle hides all kinds of sights, such as the Deep Well, which, along with the Heath Tower, is one of the must-sees of your JGA excursion. It is 50 metres deep.

Nuremberg Toy Museum

A little to the south, the Toy Museum shows you the most important companions of German childhood. Dolls, board games and trains are on display in this impressive museum and will turn even the oldest visitors back into children.

The Beautiful Fountain in the centre is a 19-metre high fountain in the Gothic style. It was designed as a church tower and is surrounded by several legends. It is said that visitors who turn the mysterious brass ring once will be granted three wishes. If they spin it three times instead, they will be showered with good fortune.

Looking for some relaxation? The Nuremberg Handwerkhof is a tempting place with its delicacies and handicrafts. Here you can savour gingerbread and sausages and watch the craftsmen at work.

Marriage carousel and Frauenkirche

The Marriage Carousel, or Hans Sachs Fountain, depicts married life in an ironic way. Although the fountain caused outrage when it was first erected, it is now an important landmark. A photo right in front of it is the best proof of a successful stag party.

The Frauenkirche, built in the Gothic style, dates back to the 14th century. Roman Catholic services are still held here today, accompanied by the organ from 1957. If you wait patiently outside the church gates, you will be rewarded with the sight of the Männleinlaufen. This is the dance of the figures in the tower every day at 12 noon.
