Info about leipzig
Leipzig is often called the "new Berlin", or "Hypezig". Innovation, art and culture - a city that really sets the mood! Which sights do you absolutely have to see on your stag party?
St Thomas' Church and St Nicholas' Church
The three-nave St Thomas' Church is located in the heart of Leipzig and impresses with its Mendelssohn portal and golden paintings. The church is best known for the work of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose remains have rested in the church since the 1950s.
Johann Sebastian Bach spent 30 years of his life in Leipzig. The composer is commemorated by a statue in St Thomas' Churchyard and the Bach Museum, which showcases his life and work over an area of 450 square metres.
The Nikolaikirche dates back to the 12th century and is a prime example of sacred architecture with marble floors, elaborately designed Corinthian columns and a vaulted ceiling. The Peaceful Revolution, which ultimately led to the fall of the Berlin Wall, began here in the Nikolai churchyard in 1989. The Nikolai Column in front of the church also commemorates this moment.
Dandelion fountain and market square
The three dandelion fountains are 3 metre tall works of modern art designed by Harry Müller in 1972. As an abstract interpretation of flowers, they are located on Richard-Wagner-Platz.
The market square is not only ideal for shopping and strolling. Trade routes once crossed here before knights' games were held here in the Middle Ages.
Leipzig City Hall and City Tower
The town hall is also the largest building on the square and definitely cannot be overlooked. After being remodelled several times, the imposing building is now one of the most important representatives of the German Renaissance.
Compared to the New Town Hall, the Old Town Hall looks modest. The New Town Hall is located in the southern part of the centre and stands out from its surroundings with its white limestone façade. The town hall tower is the tallest in Germany (114.7 metres).
The City Tower is the place to visit for a fascinating view over the city. With its antenna, the building is a proud 155.40 metres high and has 34 floors. Afterwards, a toast in one of the bars in the centre is of course a must at the stag party.
