's-Gravenhage

The Hague, or 's-Gravenhage, is one of the most important cities in the Netherlands and the world. Today, The Hague is the centre of Dutch nobility: the city has been the residence of the royal family since 1831. Although Amsterdam, and not The Hague, is the official capital of the country, the latter city is also the seat of parliament and government. Its global importance stems from the fact that the city is also the seat of the International Court of Justice and Criminal Court, Eurojust and Europol.

City by the sea

The Hague is not only one of the political centres of the Netherlands, but also its largest city by the sea, with around 11 kilometres of coastline. Weather permitting, you should definitely combine your stay in The Hague with a trip to the beach - in The Hague you live practically next to the beach, so you don't have to drive long to go swimming!

The Zwarte Pad, more to the north, invites you to great beach parties in summer, for example. On Noordboulevard, you can also combine a little shopping with a dip in the water. The beaches of The Hague offer something for all tastes and plans!

Places of interest in The Hague

When the weather doesn't cooperate, The Hague's museums are an attraction worth seeing. The Museum Beelden aan Zee ("Museum of Sculpture by the Sea") is a private museum of modern sculpture. For fans of older works, there is the Mauritshuis, which exhibits paintings by the Dutch and Flemish masters of past decades and centuries.

The De Pier pier is also a good place to visit in colder weather and, besides the view, offers additional leisure activities, such as bungee jumping and various restaurants. For another dose of adrenaline, there are also two amusement parks nearby, Drievliet and Duinrell.
