Info about Bucharest
If you are still looking for an interesting destination, you should visit Bucharest! Located in the east of Romania on the Dâmbovița River, the capital offers an exciting nightlife and many attractions such as the Palace of Parliament, the Arcul de Triumf and the Macca-Vilacrosse passage.
The Palace of Parliament
Named the heaviest building in the world by Guinness World Records, the Palace of Parliament is located in the heart of the city of Bucharest. The parliament building, built in the 1980s, owes its existence to the megalomania of former president Nicolae Ceaușescu. The building has around 5,100 rooms and both the view from the outside and a guided tour through the building are impressive.
Within walking distance of the Palace of Parliament, you can also visit the Macca-Vilacrosse passage. Here you will not only find many small shops for souvenirs and jewellery, but also a large selection of great restaurants.
Arc de Triomphe and Celebration Culture
Anyone who wants to know why Bucharest is also called the "Paris of the East" should take a look at the city's Arc de Triomphe. Built on the Parisian model, it is only half as high as the original, but no less imposing. Every year on 1 December, Romania's bank holidays, a grand parade through the decorated streets takes place here.
When it comes to nightlife, Romania doesn't take anything for granted either. The city's party street, Mâtâsari, is bursting with small pubs and lively clubs. The party never stops here! If you want something a little more cosy, we recommend the Kulturhaus. Behind the German name is a popular bar, which is always well attended. Live concerts also take place here regularly.
If you're hungry after all the partying, you're sure to find something to eat in Bucharest. Many typical Romanian dishes include corn, which is made into a solid porridge in the national dish Mămăligă, for example. In the dish Bulz, sheep's cheese is coated with this porridge, optionally refined with eggs and meat, and then baked. Restaurants serving Romanian cuisine and a wide variety of dishes can be found everywhere in downtown Bucharest!
