Info about budapest
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and also the largest city in the country. Here we tell you about the best sights you can't miss on your stag party!
Danube and the Chain Bridge
Budapest is located directly on the Danube, on the banks of which are also the city's most famous buildings. These include Gellért Hill, on which the Statue of Liberty and a citadel stand, and the former royal palace - the Castle Palace - which houses a museum and the National Gallery.
East of the Danube is the grandiose Parliament building and the Pesti Vigadó concert hall, as well as the National Theatre and the Palace of Arts. The Parliament building with its 700 rooms and 96-metre-high domes is one of the largest buildings in Budapest.
If you cross the city's landmark and one of nine bridges, the Chain Bridge, you will arrive at the Great Market Hall. The hall is decorated with colourful bricks and columns and houses over 180 stalls and shops. On the upper floor there are also numerous food and souvenir shops.
Boulevard and a boat trip
Andrássy út is Hungary's most famous boulevard and connects the city centre with the city forest. The almost 2 ½ kilometre long street is enclosed by several skyscrapers, the impressive State Opera House and the House of Terror, which was built as a memorial in the form of a museum.
If you want an unforgettable view of the buildings at the foot of the Danube, a boat tour on the Danube is worthwhile. These are offered either as an evening package with dinner and live music or as a sightseeing tour.
Food you can't do without
Hungarian cuisine is generally rather meat-heavy and very spicy. As far as Hungarian specialities are concerned, langós are particularly well known, and they are already popular in some places in Germany. Langós are yeast dough patties that are baked in fat. The patties are then covered with various sauces, such as sour cream or garlic sauce. Finally, they are sprinkled with cheese. You can also order them with sausage, ham or onions.
