Info about Brussels
Fascinating centre and the Grand Place
Brussels is the capital of Belgium and is located pretty much in the centre of the country. The bilingual metropolis is especially known for the Atomium and the Manneken Pis. Here we show you which sights you can't miss on your stag party in Brussels!
Definitely worth a visit is the Grand-Place in the heart of the city. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, the square is surrounded by the town hall and several baroque-style buildings. All kinds of events take place here, such as the Beer Festival, and during the Christmas season the Grand-Place is beautifully festively decorated.
Not far from the Grand Place stands the Manneken Pis. The small bronze figure stands on a hill and "urinates" into the fountain below. It is one of Brussels' landmarks and is dressed up in different costumes throughout the year. Manneken Pis is symbolic of freedom of expression, spirit of resistance and democratic values.
The Saint Hubert Gallery
Also right next to the Grand-Place is the Saint Hubert Royal Gallery, one of the oldest shopping arcades in Europe. This is strongly reflected in the interior design and architecture of the building.
If you continue to follow the road upwards, you will arrive at the Royal Palace. This is the official palace of the King of Belgium. On the way there, you will pass through the Mont des Arts, which makes a great photo backdrop because of its huge flowerbed.
There is more: the Atomium
A little outside, but still worth seeing, is the world-famous Atomium. It is a bit far from the city centre, but very easy to reach by tram. The 100-metre building is a model of an elementary cell consisting of nine atoms. Each of these individual atoms can be walked through.
If you want to get to know the culinary specialities of the country, you must try Belgian waffles. You can find them on every corner in Brussels, but they are also often sold in restaurants. Belgium is also known for its delicious homemade French fries and the various types of Belgian beer.
