Info about BAsel
Basel is a city of culture and history, with no less than 40 museums. So let's go to Basel in Switzerland for your stag party!
Old Town Basel
The fountains splash and the church bells ring - the medieval old town is an ensemble of cobblestones, centuries-old façades and small alleys that are home to the Tinguely Fountain, among others. This modern work of art is composed of metal parts and figures that freeze in winter and offer a very special sight. In addition, important buildings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods can be admired along Freiestrasse.
Basel Art Museum and City Hall
A few streets to the east is the Kunstmuseum, which displays the largest art collection in Switzerland. Among the most important pieces in the exhibition are works by the Holbein family and paintings by Pablo Picasso and Matthias Grünewald.
You can't miss the town hall with its copper-red façade on the market square. In addition, parts of the building date back to the 16th century, such as the gilded clock from 1511. You will also find the perfect place for a JGA photo in the inner courtyard, which is embellished with paintings from the 17th century.
Paper Mill and Basel Cathedral
Tucked away on the banks of the Rhine is the Basel Paper Mill. This building dates back to the Middle Ages and was first used for paper production in the 15th century. The water wheel, idyllically turning in the street, is a reminder of the company's former success. Today, the museum for paper, writing and printing is located in the mill.
Basel Cathedral is a medieval church that can be recognised by its sandstone towers. It stands on a small plateau above the Rhine and overlooks the Münsterplatz in front of it. The Celts are said to have used the square as a place of worship.
Spalentor and House to the Cherry Orchard
Surrounded by Basel's restaurants and cafés, the Spalentor stands as a monument to the Middle Ages in the heart of the city. This is because the gate was once part of the city's fortifications before the remains were removed in the 19th century.
The Haus zum Kirschgarten was built between 1775 and 1780 and became the town palace of a family of silk manufacturers. Here, inside, visitors get an insight into the life of the family in the 18th century.
